I think it is worth checking out if for no other reason than having every upgrade at once feels amazing, but if you're looking for a game worth chasing high scores on, f-off to somewhere else. The random elements create a feeling of unfairness in the leaderboards that would be okay if the rest of the experience was intrinsically enjoyable, but Tormentor X Punisher falls just short of that rare achievement with the forced cutscenes that halt the utterly insane gameplay. Overall, even though this high energy and cheesy twin shooter was a pleasant surprise starting out, it doesn't hold up over long play sessions or attempting for high scores. Demons adjust to your play style and punish you accordingly. Bosses change the shape of the arena, conjuring rooms and traps to make it more hellish and brutal. Everything in Tormentor Punisher can be killed in one hit, including bosses and yourself. This might have been a necessity since the music, sound effects, screen shake, and particle effects make it hard to tell what's what from so much overlap, but it still doesn't feel worth it considering how much it slows down an otherwise rapid gameplay loop. Tormentor Punisher - Welcome to Planet Fuck YouIts a real planet, look it up. The cutscene that zooms in on every boss also seems pointless since they all have unique sound queues that let you know which one spawned in regardless if you can see them or not. The random boss spawns also detract from chasing high scores since at the start and end (where three bosses will spawn at once), luck will play a huge role in how far you get since most players will have every shot upgrade by the end. As nice as this is, the random boss type that will spawn makes it so getting the f-off shot or fire is best since aside from the bird boss that charges the wall, wallie isn't useful for quickly killing bosses, or even the shield enemies. It's a little annoying that you need to spend about 30 seconds every time to get these, but I can't see any way of changing this other than a upgrade selection at the start of every run (but then you lose out on the feeling of gradually powering up your character, which I don't think is worth losing). You can also check out some screenshots from the game in a gallery below the trailer.I'm conflicted on this game because although I really enjoy the mechanics and decisions you have to make, I always feel a hesitance to go again because of the random boss order, and the relatively long, unskippable cutscenes that play at the start of every boss spawn.Īt least in the early game, there's always the options of going for different weapon upgrades in different orders like fire, wall, and f-off shots. Or team up with them in local co-op while telling them what big losers they are.Īccording to the game's website, the title is inspired by comic books like Prison Pit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and tabletop games like Necromunda. You’re gonna die a lot, but who cares so long as you can be at the top of the leaderboards and brag to your friends about it. Here are the Tormentor X Punisher System Requirements (Minimum) CPU: Info CPU SPEED: Dual Core RAM: 2 GB VIDEO CARD: GeForce 7600 GT (256 MB), Intel HD. Explore and discover new ways of killing enemies to gain cool upgrades. Its attitude infuses every aspect of the game, from enemy designs, the chunky low-resolution art and especially the excellent voicework that, yes, is repetitive but a major part of setting the tone. Everything in Tormentor Punisher can be killed in one hit, including bosses and yourself. Rack up combos to score weapon upgrades, reload your machine gun by firing your shotgun, and take on killer bosses that randomly change the arena during each run. Tormentor X Punisher is loud, mean, occasionally unfair, intentionally ugly and thoroughly awesome. Welcome to Tormentor X Punisher, home to Planet Fuck You (it’s a real planet), where everything is a one hit kill including the bosses and yourself. You can find it at the end of the article but be warned, the trailer contains large amounts of gratuitous language and violence.Ī description of the title (which also contains harsh language) can be found below, straight from E-Studio: In addition to the announcement of the launch date, the developer also released a brand new music video/trailer for the game. The title will be released exclusively for PC. Today developer E-Studio and publisher Raw Fury announced that their new game Tormentor X Punisher will be released on June 2nd, 2017.
